Glue tiles to existing vinyl only if it is a single layer, relatively smooth and not cushioned.

Otherwise, prep the floor:

Option 1: Install underlayment (special plywood with all voids plugged, one surface sanded and edges milled to interlock). Forbo recommends dispersion-type staples; nails can pop up. Fasten every 4 to 6 inches in the field and every 2 to 3 inches along seams. Sand seams flat.

Option 2: If the old flooring is in relatively good shape and not too cushioned, fill gaps with a floor-leveling compound made with Portland cement and a liquid latex binder. As you unroll each roll, the clear plastic end lies on top of the end with adhesive strip and two white pieces of foam will be butted up against each other.

Then Ensure the two white sides are as close as they can be and lay one over the other and tack it down. That is how you will know if it's on upside down. If the tape strip is down, it is backwards. It is very important that the Foam underlayment run the same direction as the flooring.

Next Step:

Cover the floor with the foam underlayment and then put the sheet should right up against the first sheet that you installed. Peel back the covering of the adhesive tape on the first sheet and smooth the plastic edge of the second sheet down onto the tape of the first sheet

Final

Remove any additonal foam underlayment with a razor to remove any underlayment around any obstructions like vents and corners

plywood can be removed fairly easily. Just cut it into strips as long as there is no vinyl backing left. Getting all the staples removed or beat down is by far the hardest part.
If it's ran underneath the cabinets use a sharp razor knife and score it several times and it should break off pretty clean.
A lot of staples will have slivers of plywood caught underneath you should either pull out or use needle nose pliers to remove the sliver then hammer then down flush. When you remove the plywood don't want anything sticking up.
It's a good idea to refasten the subfloor onto the joist with screws or screw shank underlayment nails. You should see how flat it is too... may have to belt sand some seams.Scott Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03787141371401854937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038983460542879173.post-3757533769242557752013-10-23T09:43:00.001-07:002013-10-23T09:43:19.664-07:00Marking and Cutting Linoleum and Lamiante Flooring

Before you begin removing the sub floors or underlayment you must know the orientation of the floor joists so you may cut between them. Once you know the location and orientation of the floor joists, simply use your skill saw to make relief cuts in the wood sub floor material between the joists so you can begin prying the material loose.

After you have made the necessary cuts in the sub floor area you will be replacing, use a flat pry bar to begin lifting the material from the joists. If the sub floor being replaced is dimensional plank lumber you will need to also make cuts at the perimeter of the repair area along floor joists.

You will then need to nail blocks to the joists for the replacement wood sub flooring to rest on. If the original material is particle board or plywood you should replace the entire sheet if at all possible or at least to one edge. If you must only replace a partial sheet use the same method of blocking on the floor joists to support the replacement sub floor.Scott Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03787141371401854937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038983460542879173.post-7613389740035493652013-10-23T09:37:00.001-07:002013-10-23T09:37:27.268-07:00The SKIL flooring saw makes cross cuts, rip cuts, and miter cuts in material up to 3/4".

If you must only replace a partial sheet use the same method of blocking on the floor joists to support the replacement sub floor.Scott Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03787141371401854937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038983460542879173.post-53081898641225420572013-10-23T09:30:00.000-07:002013-10-23T09:30:17.443-07:00Using a Japanese Prybar to Remove Linoleum Flooring and Underlayment

For a whole new look and décor can be created by laying linoleum flooring. This is a project that just about anyone can do with a little patience and skill. In order to install linoleum, though, the subfloor must be level. Make sure that any bumps can be sanded down and dips can be filled with a self-leveling floor leveler. The floor must be dry and this can be seen on a wood subfloor but a cement slab must be tested. Using testing which can be accomplished by taping a 15 by 15 sheet of plastic to the slab and letting it sit for up to 72 hours. If there is any moisture under the plastic, then flooring should'nt be installed until the slab is dry.

Linoleum Underlayment and Installation

If the linoleum is in bad shape but stuck in tight in most spots you can use luan flooring boards. They also go down with staples or nails and you place them securely Then your underlayment is set and you can install the laminate flooring. If it has been a while that the linoleum has been there, either method might cause you some trouble.

Using plywood as Linoleum Underlayment

Using plywood as a linoleum underlayment also works. When replacing the flooring in your home and you require a good underlayment, you really can't go wrong with this choice. Use the plywood, and have the pieces carefully screwed down and into the joists or at least to the layer under it with drywall type screws. Other options include driving the old nails out, and then sinking the plywood with a new nail set. When smoothed out with a leveller, use cement, and edge it into the gapes and into other places.

1. lay linoleum onto current plywood
2.

Now that you've found some potential contractors, make a list of
questions that you'll want to ask. The good contractors will want to come to
your house to take a look at the project and get accurate measurements, so you
can probably save most of your questions until then. But, some of the questions
you will want to ask over the phone to narrow down your search are:

If time is a concern for you, how far out are they scheduling new
work? No point wasting time if you want the job done in the next two weeks and
they can't get to it until two months from now. How big is their company? Are
they family owned and operated? Do they do the work themselves or have
employees or other sub-contractors that they use?

I think some of the best most reliable contractors in any trade,
are the ones that are on the job site every day doing the work themselves. They
take a lot more pride in their work as well as making customer service and
satisfaction a priority.

wood floors may be installed if the particleboard is ripped out, but if the
original subfloor is not thick enough, at least a 1/2-inch layer of plywood or
3/4-inch OSB must be added once the particleboard is removed. The other option
is to install a layer of plywood or OSB over the top of the particleboard
(although that may create unacceptable height differences with the adjoining
rooms; always check). Read

In order to install your top floor, such as Hardwood or Laminate you must first
ensure that your subfloor is even. If it is not even, and you wish to have this
corrected, there are leveling compounds available that you can use to smooth
out the unevenness. Levelling compound products are available to fill in low
spots in your subfloor. If you take time to level the subfloor, you will have a
more successful project. Read
