Installing an Underlayment For Linoleum Flooring
- When installing flooring, underlayment is required to keep the linoleum flooring smooth.
- Luan Underlayment, which is a type of plywood can be used for linoleum. (type 1)
- Luan plywood, should be installed for a number of reasons, primiarly structural.
- Seams from peices of Luan should not meet up, with the seams from the subfloor, as this will allow for moisture, shrinkage and gapig.
- Use staples (galanized ) to install the underlayment 4 inches apart for the floor, and 2 inches from all seams.
- An expansion gap, should be used around the breadth of your work, with room for about 1/8 of an inch. (also leave a gap for expansion of about 1/16t when the seets ad filled with floor leveler)
- When complete, sand smooth.
