Marmoleum Flooring: Background Information

Marmoleum Flooring

Marmoleum helps create a healthier indoor environment. Naturally occurring anti-microbial properties inhibit the growth of many micro-organisms, including allergen producing dust mites and the MRSA strains of bacteria.

Marmoleum also has natural anti-static properties that repel dust and dirt, making it easy to maintain a clean and hygienic home. Dust and damp mopping is generally all the care it will need. If there is a spill, simply wipe it up. For harder to clean spills, Marmoleum Concentrated Floor Cleaner can be used.

Both our finish and cleaner are made from environmentally responsible ingredients. Marmoleum has a strong, durable protective top layer - Topshield.

This water-based innovation from Forbo is applied to Marmoleum at the factory. It eliminates the need for initial maintenance and ensures a highly effective shield against dirt and scuff marks.

How to Begin Site Prep Work For Linoleum?

That depends upon the nature and age of the subfloor. Always consult with your installer first. If adjacent floorboards are at different heights, sanding may be required. If they have serious flaws, a self-leveling cementitious product or a premade 1/8"-1/2" hardboard or cement board may suffice. If the concrete slab is cracked, a filler needs to be used in conjunction with an isolation membrane. If the floor is damp it needs to dried thoroughly. If mildew or mold exists they need to be removed. If the floor is squeeky or weak, structural work may be required or hardboard or cement board may suffice.
